1. Learn the 20 vowel sounds.
In Pronunciation Patterns, we put the 20 vowel sounds into seven groups: the sound A, the sound E, the sound I, the sound O, the sound U, the sound OO, and the others. For each of the six groups, they have the long sound, the short sound, and the short sound + the consonsant R sound.

To access each of these 20 vowel sounds, just go to the Vowels & Diphthongs page and click the sound button. You will see the mouth video clips to learn how to pronounce each vowel sound correctly. (Note: When you pronounce the vowel sounds, your tongue does not touch any part of your mouth. All vowel sounds are voiced sounds.)
2. Learn the 24 vowel sounds.
In Pronunciation Patterns, we put the 24 vowel sounds into four groups: the voiced sounds, the voiceless sounds, the nasal sounds, and the others. The voiced sounds and the voiceless sounds are paired to help you learn that those sounds are pronounced in the same way but one with voice and the other is voiceless. In the others group, there are voiced and voiceless sounds. All nasal sounds are voiced sounds. (Note: When you pronounce the consonant sounds, your tongue does touch a part of your mouth.)

To access each of these 24 consonant sounds, just go to the Cononsant page and click the sound button. You will see the mouth video clips to learn how to pronounce each consonant sound correctly. (Note: When you pronounce the consonant sounds, your tongue does touch a part of your mouth.)
Useful Information
1. If you prefer International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA or KK) over American Phonetic Alphabet (APA) or vice versa to help you learn the sounds, you can switch between them at the login window, in the Help window, or by clicking the IPA/APA at the top right corner. For the Network edition users, you can also go to Menu/Settings/Phonetic Alphabet or Quick Settings page.
2. Pronunciation Patterns recommends APA because all the phonics rules and pronunciation patterns are based on APA. All the online phonetic representation are written in APA.
